Hi,
I'm new to the forums here, and I'm posting today to ask for some advice. I'm currently bringing a 1975 Honda CB125 back to life and it's so close to being done. I realized yesterday that the throttle cable is on its last leg -- literally hanging on by 2 threads. I hadn't noticed prior because the fray is inside of the throttle housing, where it wraps around the throttle sleeve.
As it turns out, replacement cables are no longer available. According to the parts fiches online, that cable was used only for 1975 CB125s, and not for anything else. That probably explains why there doesn't seem to be an aftermarket one out there either. This cable has an elbow fitting on the end that goes into the throttle housing. Cables from prior years attached differently and don't include the elbow. Cables from 1976 and up look similar, but I'm not sure if they'd work given that both ends to which they connect are different part numbers than on the 1975 bikes.
I've checked David Silver Spares, and poured over eBay. Some sellers list that their cables will fit 1975 cb125s, but I don't trust it because the picture doesn't show the elbow.
Does anyone have any advice on where I might obtain a throttle cable for this bike? I don't care if it's used as long as it works and isn't likely to snap while I'm miles from home. I saw that revival cycles (I think that's the name) sells a kit to make your own custom cables -- maybe that's my best bet. Motion Pro will make cables, it seems, if you give them all of the measurements, but they come at a pretty high price.
I'm going to call some motorcycle salvage yards today and hope to get lucky, but I'm afraid that they won't be able to help me over the phone.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
