today, i lost one of my babies. berlios has been immensly fat for years, nothing we did could get her to lose weight, vet said some cats are just that way. well she's been acting lethargic since thursday, this morning we got her to the vet to find out her kidneys were gone. vet tells me this happens alot with fat cats. she will be missed terribly here. if anyone else has a calico or tortoiseshell they'll know what i'm saying when even her "tortietude" will be missed. this is the 3rd pet i've lost in the past 9 months. my sweet little calico ilse in may, 2 weeks to the day later my horse onyx died, like ilse from cancer and now berlios, the inspiration to my shops name fat cat vintage cycles has left us too soon as well.

Fuzzy, you have my sincere condolences for your loss. :( We have a calico ourselves, "Molly Belle" who is a fair size cat too. She was quite a bit overweight and, for some reason, she lost a good amount of weight. But, then she gain some of it back. She's pretty a good size cat and probably bordering on being too fat herself. People we got her from, found her in Memphis 10 or 11 years ago (they named her Belle, as in the Memphis Belle) and, somehow, we ended up with her and our daughter named her Molly (making her full name Molly Belle) Don't have any pictures handy at present. Oldest cat we ever had was old Sam (for Samantha) and she died about 1 month short of being 20yrs old (cat years would have been in her 80's, I think) She was one cranky old cat too! Guess she had a right to be cranky, she had arthritis and was deaf, to boot. :-\

                                 Later on, Bill :) ;)

Cats get nasty when they hit 20.  Don't lick themselves any more, poop in the weirdesr places, throw up all over- sheesh, cat food ALL over the table- ALL OVER the whole kitchen.  YUCK  First ruby, and now Miss Kitty have this catter-walling, straight from the depths of hell wail that freeze-dries blood cells while passing through the lungs to pick up oxygen.  A sound that makes me want to grow grass on my butt and lie face down on a golf course so when the mower drives over me at least it will take my mind off that sound.  Swallow magnets and hug a semi-trailer so the wind will wash over me and distract from the cat miasma pooling in the low spots of our house.

My GF's parents had an old cat, real old and overweight. It had the funniest personality; when you would pet it, it would purr like any other cat but as soon as you stopped, move away quick cause' it would switch to kill mode as soon as you did.

Here's my 1yr old Husky dog.. or wolf, I'm not actually sure what he is. though I think His tail is a little too fancy to be a wolfs. My girlfriend found him in a snow bank when he was about four weeks old on a Native Reserve in Northern Ontario.

this pic he has his hunting eyes on  :D

our daughter in law has an orange tabby who is at least 21 possible as old as 23. we've been caring for her while linda is in afghanistan and that old battleaxe rules my entire household of pets. she's full of energy and acts like a 5 year old except for the "old lady" squwack. but yeah, lots of old cats do tend to become less flexible so theyre unable to groom themselves. berlios was like that too, except that she was just too fat to groom herself. ernie, you might want to try a rice based cat food as it's ALOT more digestible than cat foods with corn or other grains in it.

We're mixing prescription food with canned pumkin.  3 different medicines 3 times a day.  She doesn't seem to mind.  I think she's deaf and that probably makes a difference, too.  Went out with a deaf woman for a while- man, when she yelled at me it was like a horror movie.

Thanks Fuzzy, he's still the best and fastest horse I've ever owned. Got him at four months and he cut his leg while I was unloading him,
got it hung between the truck and the loading shoot, just stepped in a hole and did so, didn't panic either. Anyway I stood there holding his
cut rear leg (from hock to fetlock) while waiting on our vet to get there. He stitched him up and that's how he got his name.

Hey Matt, great looking Husky/wolf. My Husky is 1/4 wolf and my nephew told me that a wolf carries his tail low.
Husky's curl them like your seems too. So it's hard to tell how much wolf is in him but he sure looks it eh?

Here's the latest member of our family

She arrived last Saturday, she's an 18 month old Springer Spaniel called Dee  8)

Our two cats are less than impressed with our decision ::)  But they are slowly but surely teaching the new arrival her place in the scheme of things :o

@Rocking-M: You are blessed with gorgeous animals, although I am bepuzzled as to how Sambo and Miss Cotton got their names. Also, is that your great-great-great grandfather in the B&W picture, or do you do re-enactments? Are they cavalry re-enactments, or do you get to be the officer?

@Matt: Dat's a big dog, and he looks to be a gem. It's amazing that such a small pup could survive any time exposed in the snow.

@Fuzzy: Does she have a name yet? How's she getting on?

@Chris: Congrats. Is this your first adventure with a dog with rubber band legs?

Here's the newest member of our household. Her name is Bella. We adopted her from a shelter about a month ago. She had been abandoned at the shelter at night, so we don't know much about her. We think she's about 3 years old and mebbe a cross between a Lab and an Australian Shepard.

Most importantly, she's a gem! She's very affectionate and well behaved.

After she arrived, she spent her first days luxuriating and sleeping in Lucy's big bed.

unfortunately she seemed to want to stalk and attack the weiner dog. relentlessly. tried to shake her like a ragdoll in fact. she went to my vet who took her home with her. the barn where i used to have my horse and the stepdaughters horse still is has just had a crop of kittens and one is a calico earmarked for me.

Ah, well. Definitely not the right cat. It can be hard to give up an adoption that's not a good fit, but the existing family, animals, weiner dogs, etc. do have to come first.

What do you suppose her heritage is? Her coat definitely came from a Lab, no? But the pointy ears I just can't place.

I really don't know, as we found her in an alley in a garbage bag.  She was the only one still alive.  So we never saw the parents.  But I did call the spca on the people whose trash I found them in.
She has a bit of black on her tongue, which everyone tells me is a sign of chow, and she is on the protective side, but not overly aggressive.  Little bit w/ strangers, depending how they react to her.  She definitely smells fear.
And that pic isn't the best of her, she's cocking her ears back to hear something behind her I think.  Normally they go forward and look like a German Shepard.  Her build's a little small for one though, and her tail is a little on the short and curly side.
Best dog I've had.  Took about three tries to housebreak her, and took to her leash like she'd been doing it for years.  She loves to run with me too!
Just call me Timmaaaaay!!!

Haha, good one.  She's either listening for something or uncomfortable around company if she's doing that.
