Track Day at Nelson Ledges with LEAN Track Days!
« on: June 13, 2018, 06:42:44 AM »
Well, this last weekend was pretty nice, at least Saturday it didn't rain until 10:30am and quit about noon. We had some good track time, as they only ran Intermediate and Advanced sessions, as there were no Novice riders signed up.
Had the 1989 VTR250 Interceptor there, and it was cornering very well, my best lap time was 1:27.1, not my best, but still decent for a 250! That bike amazes me with its ability to corner. I transplanted a 1989 CBR600 Hurricane front end in VF500 triple trees, and you wouldn't know it wasn't stock if you looked at it, as the VTR250 and VF500 Interceptor mount the J-box, fuses and ignition switch the same way. The plus is, I get 37mm front forks, dual disk brakes (with wave rotors) and a nice 17x2.5" front rim.
Here is a video of the day!

The rear Pirelli DOT race tire was working really well, and it scrubbed up a good bit of rubber on it. I am thinking it will need a new one by the end of this year.

My youngest son took his cbr600f4i to the "Autobahn" road course in Joliet Illinois this last weekend and not many showed up there either due to weather forecasts but he was till able to get in 5 sessions on Saturday after the track dried and 2 more on Sunday before he had to leave. He said only half of those that showed up on Saturday returned for Sunday and he pretty much had the track to himself in the intermediates.

That's really a good thing, the track at Nelson was pretty sparse also. That gives a lot of room to practice! I hope that Sam Wang gets more people out there for the July 28th and 29th track day weekend. There is a great group of riders that attend, its like family.
