I'll definitely be there on Sunday.  Just not sure what I'm bringing yet.  My 750 isn't ready for this year, so I'm either riding up on my yellow '76 GL1000, or my black GL1200 Standard.

I'll probably put it in the show too.  Not going to win anything, but no reason not to.

I'm in for the ride on Saturday if the weather is decent but the forecast is not looking too good. Of course, there's lots of time for that to change and I am looking for

I'm disappointed, the weather was a bust. If you went, I hope it worked out for you.

Sean, do you have more plans to improve Goldie?
There was a time when I wanted to do like you have done with your CB.
Very Nice.

Yeah, my van broke down so no hauling stuff to the swap.  I didn't even go.

Next thing for my gold bike will be a big bore engine.  But I don't know when.

Yeah, Gilmore was a bit of a wash.  It didn't start raining until a couple hours into the show, but then it was on and off the rest of the day.  Attendance was way down, especially from last year.  I mean, there was still some really good stuff there, but there wasn't much of... anything.

It wasn't all bad.  I got to catch up with a guy who comes every year, so that was good.  But it was definitely a slower year.

Even a rainy day can be a good one for a motorcycle. True story:
I was 17 (1970) when I got my first dirt bike, a Honda SL100, mini thumper. I did a few 100 mile trail rides then decided to race scrambles and motocross. So the lights speedo horn mirror came off, and knobbies, Konis, big back sprocket, cam, 21" front wheel went on. I wasn't very good or fast, but it was a blast, and I built riding skills that still help me today when the chips are down.
Anyway, it's Sunday (1971) at Hadley scrambles, nice day good turnout when a BIG storm comes through, chasing many riders away. I stayed for the races, heat and main, slow going in the deep mud, but I made it to the finish line, packed up and went on my way.
A couple days later, my Mom is waiting for me when I got home after work. She tells me "A man stopped here today, he was riding a big Harley. He asked if you lived here, when I said yes, he left something for you". I didn't know what I had forgotten, when I went in the the house there is a two foot tall shiny trophy sitting on the counter. I got 3rd place, out of four riders. That's the only trophy I ever got for dirt bike racing, I still have it.  :) :)
So even if the weekend was a rainy bust, somebody earned the trophy and he has a smile on!

Bummed I missed it despite the weather. It has seemed to be less full over the past few years from accounts I have heard. I think they need to start advertising in Motorcycle Classics to draw a larger crowd. It could be the premier show in the midwest but someone needs to take it there, it won't happen all its own. Doesn't help me that its Road America weekend with AHRMA, which is one of their best events all year, as well as having the Rockerbox Motofest bike show there. A lot more activity of all types there, which could be applied to Gilmore, again, if someone was willing to take it to the next level.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Gilmore museum should have built a road course years ago...probably too many rich neighbors around there now.

Gilmore museum should build a......
.....motorcycle shop/dealer chock full of trophy winning vintage motorcycles.
I volunteer to exercise all the bikes.
Sean, do you want to be the top wrench?

Isn't there a (parade) loop on the west side of the property?

Rather keep my business and pleasure separate, kevin.

Thing is, that is their only motorcycle event for the whole year.  And the permanent collection of motorcycles is very small and very recent.

Just dreaming myself a dream job, Sean.

Willi, I don't know enough about Gilmore and what makes it tick. I have only been a few times. I like the barns. I haven't been in the car dealers yet, but I think they are a good idea. A MC shop would be a nice addition. And I wish I could pump some V-Power from those gas pumps at the vintage Shell station.
