Honda made a bad decision IMHO to include a chain oiler on the early
750's that is a source of oil thrown all over the back of the bike and,
with the short chain guard on the early bikes, all over the riders back.
The oiler typically puts much more oil on the chain than needed and
is the wrong type of lube to start with as it slings off easily.
So...the solution is to block the oil passage. This is easy to do with
a segment cut from an o-ring as shown in the pic. Cut the ring in two
and then sharpen an end. After removing the drive sprocket, insert the
sharpened end from the outside and pull it through the weep hole from
the inside with a pair of needle nose pliers. Cut off the excess inside and
outside with an exacto knife. Choose a ring that is slightly bigger than the
hole....it will shrink as you pull it through the hole.
The original design had a aluminum washer and lockwasher. I decided to
replace them with a small o-ring around the original bolt to catch any oil
that seeps through the threads from the bolt...see pic. The bolt is plenty
tight withut the lockwasher.
I did this mod on my other bike and it worked great to clean up the back
of the bike and it forces me to inspect the chain more often as I lube it.
