750 lower engine/pegs bolt
« on: June 21, 2018, 11:51:34 AM »
I'm installing rear sets on my 1973 750 and have a overly long lower engine mount bolt to contend with since oem pegs have been removed.  Just wondered what other have done with their's.  Considering threading further and then cutting to length or replacing with all thread.  Would be nice to find some chrome acorn nuts to finish off the ends.

just take some crappy old stock pegs, chop off the stalk, grind the remainder smooth, paint to match frame and use as spacer...

or whip up some nice aluminum spacers on the lathe
you can see it in this picture if you zoom in

Nice-looking bike SB. Is your rear set in the way for your Kickstarter operation?

Don't use allthread. It is not designed to be used as a structural element which is what a bolt holding an engine as well as connecting the two sides of the frame together
It is actually made of crappier metal than the engine case screws Honda used in the 70's

i blame Terry

So now I'm rethinking rear set placement.  My purchased set was to go in place of 2up pegs.  May be too far back to be comfy and then I have another problem of fabbing up another spot for the 2up pegs that won't have her knees at her ears.  Looking more into the brackets sold to reposition the rear sets part way back.  This would utilize the bolt in question at full length I believe.  Would really like the kick starter to function fully though.  The rear set I purchased does not fold and I've read the even the ones that do, the kick start may still hit the brake pedal.

yeah, that's how mine are(kicker hits the brake pedal if you follow through all the way)  I can still kick start the bike if necessary but its gonna be bad on the regular...kickstarting one of these is really just some show off poser #$%* anyway

so far I ended up purchasing three quarter inch aluminum spacers and chrome acorn nuts. I'll probably have to ride with the rearsets where they're at for a little bit to see if it's comfortable and make a decision from
