Another Rear Shock Question
« on: June 24, 2018, 05:27:26 PM »
Hello,

Looking to replace/upgrade the rear shocks on my 74 CB 550 and thinking about Ikons (based on all my research for my style of riding) then came across the options below and wondering if they’re different or the same. Thoughts? I’ve used David Silver a ton and usually find their prices competitive so I was surprised to find such a huge difference for what appears to be the same thing.

https://www.davidsilverspares.com/CB550K0-1974-USA/part_28978/

https://z1parts.net/honda-cl450-cb450-cb500-cb550-rear-shocks-1967-1976/

Big price difference and both seem to be repops.

Thanks!

Got the ikons and don't look back.

A little less expensive option than the Ikons is Hagons. I run a set on my '73 500 and am very pleased with them.  The improvement over stock was astronomical. -J

yes, I have used both Hagons and Ikons (and a hell of a lot of other crap as well), and Hagons ARE an astronomical improvement over stock.  Thing is, the Ikons are an astronomical improvement over Hagons, and cost a couple hundred more than the Hagons as well.  So basically, like most everything in life, you get what you pay for.

I encourage everyone to spend the money on suspension, as it makes for a very fun to ride bike.
If it works good, it looks good...

Yeah, definitely thinking Ikons, especially with that nice discount.

Thanks for pushing me over the ledge!
