Cb750 head dowel and oring placement issues
« on: June 23, 2018, 03:21:27 PM »
Hey folks.  Not sure why but my hole for the #8 pin dowel in my cb750 doesnt fit and i dont want to hammer it.   Why this no fit.  Ibelieve this is the same dowel as goes under the cylinders as well.

Also... #15 o ring.   Is this where they go? See photo.  Bottom right in photo

You may have mismatched parts.  What year head and cylinder do you think you have?
15 and the piece under it, are in top right of your second pic. Be careful air blast can pull them out and lose them. When you remove the rocker stand remove these and clean the oil passage. There is 2.

You have 2 different length dowels for the cylinders top and bottom. Get them in the right positions.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Sometimes dowels get damaged while pulling them, like scratches or out of round.
You have to clean it up to reuse them, or replace them.
My preferred method of removal, run a tap into them till they start to turn, then turn and pull.

Turns out there were some burs and a little cleaning and scrubbing got it sorted out with a little finesse.

Thanks for the help.

Measure depths on both sides just for sure. Machined cyl, head will need a shorter dowel. if not the head or cylinder will not tighten properly. You need a vernĂer caliper
My setup cannot use 18mm dowels at the corners for head, 15mm last time or the special ones 14.5mm (that were used with late head and  stock gaskets 8 dowels)
Bottom for case-cylinder were 22mm once for my stock k6 cyl. Measure the holes since 18mm might be max.
I used 15mm since 18mm was just too long if I remember correctly at my last build.
