78GL1000 gas tank

 Is it realistic to search for a rust free one or should I continue to run two filters all summer and acid wash it next winter?  I add an oz of synthetic 2 stroke oil to every tank of nonalcohol gas to try to keep the rust at bay but the carbs have a red shadow inside again. I thought it was stabilized and went to the single stock fuel filter. Bad idea.
 My carb guy loaned me a set of 83 carbs for the 79, they worked great and got decent mileage. I should have bought them and left them on it.

I would think you would be able to find one without too much trouble.

i am trying to find one in england without much luck but as danny said they should be plenty a round on your side
i would get one though if the carbs get full of crap again they are a pain to sort out

 I still have a miss at part throttle. Things I've done, Changed the carb rack, cleaned the carbs two times myself, a pro once. New fuel pump, several fuel filters usually two inline, dyna ign, 1500 coils checked multiple times, new wires, new plugs twice, new caps, timing belts, idler pulleys, roto rooted the petcock feed, metered the fuel flow, It did run well to Sturgis with borrowed 1100 carbs, that's why I sent the carbs out to that guy for a rebuild. I've also replaced the intake o rings and siliconed the manifolds to the carbs internally. Valve lash, compression test although it was long ago enough I'm ready to check it again and maybe a hot leakdown test.  Idle is ok and full throttle is ok, the plugs read good. It has Denso u groove plugs right now. I should have bought the 83 1100 loaner carbs and left it alone when it was at it's best.

 Saturday it missed, sunday at 2 am coming home it was worse. I ran the carbs empty and Sunday afternoon it went 60 miles and didn't miss a beat. This morning it was crap again. Must be the floats because it only runs good with the missus on the back. l0l.
