Thanks guys.  So much heavier than my other bikes.  Gonna take some getting used to.

Jas, it’s actually “Merlot” rather than black.

I would think that "Merlot" refers to the red, given that Merlot is a red wine.

That's a beaut,  and I know what you mean.  When I get on mine and hoist it off the sidestand I think "what a pig."  But once you get moving the weight seems to go away.  And my wife is comfortable on it, which is why I wanted a touring bike.  I bought it for her, heh heh.

Ha ha, my Triumph Rocket III weighs 350 Kg and is longer than my old Goldwing, but the weight is down low so you don't normally notice it. I took a friends Road King for a ride and it was a great bike, silky smooth and very stable at 100 MPH, I'd have one! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I’m digging it so far.  Put 120 miles on it yesterday and 200+ today.  It gets new shoes, a new saddle and some new handlebars next week.

We did a couple of hundred miles on ours yesterday too, on a perfect riding day.  Still getting back into the Harley lifestyle 40 years after my last one.  I am still having trouble getting the hang of dragging my feet from a stop through an intersection, but I'll keep at it. ;)

It’s a nice Mustang seat.  It’s comfortable padding wise, but the rise in the back is too far forward for me.  It also has a hole with a flap on it for a back rest, which I probably would never use.  It didn’t come with the pillion pad, which I can get, but it’s obscenely large and I don’t like the look.  I’m getting a long one piece Mustang seat for it and I’ll sell this one.

I love the blue.  I looked at one that was the same color, but the red one was so much cleaner.

I don’t have that trouble with my feet.  My bobber has footboards and I can through my feet up on them pretty quick.  The footboards on the Road King are a little farther back and a little crowded with the heel/toe shifter, but I can still get my feet up pretty quick.

I was making a snide comment about the propensity of many Harley riders I see who drag their feet through an intersection like outriggers, apparently afraid they may fall over.

I took the heel shifter off mine. As you mentioned, it crowded my left heel too much.

I don’t have any issues taking off.  Stopping is another thing.  The dual disc front brake works really well.  A few times just before I’ve come to a stop I have squeezed just a little too hard causing the bike to want to pitch forward with all that weight behind it, sometimes with my feet up and sometimes with my feet almost down, but either way my feet were quickly searching for solid ground to support all that weight, making me look like I don’t know how to ride, or at least stop.

Nice. I bought this Mustang seat for my old Sporty and couldn't decide if I liked it or not, but as I get used to it, I'm really liking it. The only thing I need to do now is put some pegs back in the original "mid" position, by raising the rear end with an 18 inch rear wheel and taller rear shocks and seat, I no longer need forward controls. ;D

Wow, Terry.  Put some knobbies on the Sporty and she’s ready for the outback.

Got my new tires and seat installed.  It handles much better.  Also this seat puts me in a much more comfortable riding position.  I’ve got the original handlebars in the sweet spot so I think I’m going to stick with them for now.

Thanks Bud, the Sporty is actually a nicer bike to ride in the dirt than my BMW R1100GS, probably because of the lower centre of gravity, I feel like I'm sitting "in" it, not perched "on" it? Your Roadie looks nice, what tires did you put on it? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I had an ‘81 Sportster that felt like a dirt bike when I rode it.  There’s that guy who has ridden around the world a bunch of times on a Sportster, I can’t remember his name, but he has no feet.  I remember reading an interview where he said Sportsters make great dirt bikes.

I installed Meztler ME888’s on the RK.  Got rid of the bloody white walls.  Had white walls on my bobber once.  Too hard to keep clean.

Excellent, I think I've got them on my Rocket III, although I must replace them soon, they were the original tyres on it when my brother bought it new, 11 years ago. ;D
