where do you buy your oem parts?
« on: January 12, 2007, 01:10:08 PM »
I was getting prices for gasket sets A and B at a Honda dealer here in the GTA for my 79 750 f ( I know I know this site is for sohc's but I have one of those as well) and was quoted over $200.00 for top end and $55.00 for bottom end. After doing a bit of research online I found some places like HondaService.com selling the A kit (oem) for $111.00. :o Now I realize that there is a bit of an exchange and that taxes (14%) will be added to this but its still way cheaper than what I was quoted here in Ontario. The problem is they won't ship to Canada as of a few months ago. So basically I am looking for the best option for oem parts from somewhere that will ship to Canada or another option other than the Honda dealer here....what say you. thanks

Joel

I use www.davidsilverspares.com or you could try www.cmsnl.com

My local agent quoted NZ $350 for clutch springs, gasket and 7 plates. Sourced them off DSS for NZ $150 shipped.

Erm, apart from the obvious answer, why would you not want to support your local dealer?

The way I look at it is that Honda still has many OE parts/consumables available for our bikes. If you have a good working relationship with your local dealer it makes the whole process less stressful. And let's face it, OE parts from Honda, at any price, last a long time....

I've had very good success with the local dealer here (RTR Performance), not least because Larry the lead parts man is very acquainted with what I need. That's worth a big premium to me.

Another 44 cents worth.

I agree, but it seems a little accessive to have it priced @ 200 here and 100 in the u.s. Is it possible that this dealer just doesn't want to bother so the markup is super high? I will definately go OEM, but I am on a tight tight budget, as most of us are, and wanted to make sure I wasn't being taken advantage with those prices. Has anyone else bought the top end gasket kit from a dealer? Does 200$ sound a little excessive? If not then off to the races I go. :-\

Joel

and yes I do appreciate the knowledge of my parts dude, but is it worth an extra 100$ in markup? As much as I appreciate him, should he not appreciate me EVERY time I go and spend a few bills. ie price break. And if a few of you can concur that this is the going rate for this stuff then its aaalllllll good. just inquiring. ;D

I hear you, nuke, and know where you are coming from. Having worked in a start-up (ie. brand new, from nothing) motorsports dealership I can see where the whole pricing thing comes from. And yes, you are right, the dealer can price things as they choose. However, most manufacturers issue their dealers with a recommended retail price list for parts and the conscientious ones will abide by that price list.

The challenge we face here in Canada is that all of a sudden our $ is doing very well, as compared to the $US. Unfortunately the OEM's have not responded, which means that our brethren south of the border seem to have a much better deal than we do here. Give it time. Look at the huge price reductions Harley made on their stuff over the last couple of years here in Canada.....everyone else is sure to follow..........aren't they??

Here`s where I buy a lot of my OEM parts: <a href="http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-3260536-10370637" target="_top">OEM parts & online schematics[/url]
<img src="http://www.tqlkg.com/image-3260536-10370637" width="1" height="1" border="0"/>
They`ve never sent the wrong part, fast shipping and they have complete parts schematics online so you can get the correct part #.

I prefer to buy hondapartsnation.com.  Our local dealer is okay, but we've gotten some lousy treatment from them on occasion- it seems like anyone old enough to know the sohc4 CBs has been laid off, and all the 'young kids' treat us like we're too old/dumb/broke to have a gixxer or vstrom or whatever.

What I can't get from my local dealer I'll order from anyone who will ship to Canada and has the best price. I have found that ordering vintage parts from your local dealer requires you to have the part number, as their parts books are usually more current.
I've ordered gaskets from this guy in B.C. http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/Ds-Unusual-Finds__W0QQ_armrsZ1
He's on Ebay, He's reasonable and the gaskets were fine.

the canadian dollar has been 90c + to the us for the last 1.5 years.
your calculation puts it at 77c. big difference. Also you forgot to tax 15% the 200.00 on the dealer price.
you can get a high quality top end kit for 80.00 us with shipping and conversion ur looking at 120.00 cd max.
To me that is a huge difference.

I used to go to the Honda dealer on Dundas near Kipling before they closed.
I ordered my parts over the phone, and they rang me when they arrived. Payed more than ebay, but got fresh oem parts in usually a couple of days.

I like hondapartsnation.com too. I don't know about your bike or how it will compare, but on ours, we've saved a lot of money through them. I would encourage you to check them out.

Guys name is Steve In New Hampshire.  I believe he's a collector and restorer and has a many new OEM parts.  Used items too.

I have bought a few items from him and he strikes me as a knowledgable, friendly, honest guy.
