$8.00 in Arkansas for an Antique plate that you only buy once for the life of the bike. No yearly renewal.

From what I've heard, there are stipulations on the antique plates like not using the bike for a daily rider and stuff like that.Maybe its different from state to state so you might want to do some research. I doubt if Miss. would be as much as California to tag up your bike though.

Mississippi used to tax motorcycles by engine displacement man those where the days. Now they tax by year model that is the main reson I steer clear of owning a newer bike.

The bike has to be at least 20 years old to buy Antique tags here.

NC sets the value and taxes accordingly.  They valued my Indian at $100.  I'm not inclined to complain.  BUT- you absolutely can not register any vehicle without proof of insurance.  If your insurance lapses, the state finds out and fines you.  Oh yes they do.  Registration and taxes are paid seperately.  Not too bad, though.  I think REg varies but the 400 is basically so cheap I don't even pay attention.  County tax is more than the state tax.  Go figure.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

In MI, $23.00 per year, $35.00 for one-time historic vehicle plates that don't expire.

Yeah but do you get to use it as a daily rider with that plate? Someone here awhile back said you could only use it in parades or something.I don't recall who it was or which state.

You guys are probably right... I just never worried before.  Me and most of my friends always #$%*ed about mandatory insurance on autos . A lot of cases where people can't afford to get a car fuel it and insure it and therefore have trouble getting a job (a must have in rural eastern WA).  I'm so tired of everybody always suing everyone for everything.  I never had much to lose until just recently.  I'll look into some cheap insurance come spring.  Guess I'm getting old, or smarter, or both.

Wisconsin. $25 for collector plates. Never expire. Vehicle must be more than 25 years old. The only stipulation is that you can't drive it during the month of January. Not usually a problem here in Wisconsin.

In Iowa my '69 and '74  CB750s are $7 per year for a standard plate. It probably costs the DMV more to process it than they get from the fee. Of course, due to the cold winters, we can only ride for 8-9 months, so maybe that's why it's so cheap... ;)

I am looking into registering the K0 with a vintage 1969 license plate. They allow it for cars, so why not bikes? Not sure where this will lead, but if anyone has a nice 1969 Iowa motorcycle plate, I'm interested.

Same rules. Only in parades, to club meets, etc or for "mechanical testing"... Well, I do work on my bike a lot.... I've been told that usually they don't give you any hassle over it. Heck, half the time the cops in my town pull up alongside and ask me about the bike!

For the one antique motorcycle I registered, I have an original 1966 MI Cycle plate for it.

Thats cool Jonesy....I wish all cops were that way.....some are and I have encountered what you're saying a few times. Some just want to take a peek at the bike. Then theres the other side of the coin.a few of them would write you for going a couple of miles over or some BS fix-it ticket. Oh well.....just part of game!!!!

The nice thing is that where I live, the cops are biased toward Harley and crotch rocket riders. We used to have a HUGE bike night gathering with Harleys on Wednesdays and rockets on Thursdays. The entire main street was lined with bikes. Then, a new upscale high-rise apartment complex opened up along main street and tenants started complaining about the noise from the bikes. (Funny, there's a train track right behind the building, but they never complain about the train whistles) This worked out well for the city as they need revenue and lots of the Harley rides wear non-DOT helmets. So, the cops started cracking down on noisy pipes and novelty helmets. They also started going after the rocket riders if their license plates were the least bit hidden or folded in. The turnout isn't nearly what it was anymore, as many bikers boycott the city now. The city started a campaign to try and make them feel welcome as long as they follow the rules. I guess they were hurting since they couldn't write 5 parking tickets for a row of bikes on an expired meter anymore.

So, they see me on an old, quiet Honda with a legal helmet and I'm OK...

$43 for tags and regs in TN (Rutherford county)

At least I didn't have to get it inspected, though!

And who ever said insurance was required, anyway?  Just so long as I don't get pulled over and I don't hit anyone...
