Went to the races and swap meet at Mid Ohio over last weekend, and had a very good time. My RD350 was giving me fits, I had installed YZ85 reed cages and raised the exhaust ports 4mm for more top end. I also had the talk coated with Redline coating, and unfortunately the fellow sealed my tank vent shut... that was interesting. It would pull like a freight train, then stall when the float bowls ran out of gas. So. went to the swap meet and found a tank for $15 with a free beer! I swapped the caps, and allows well... or so I thought. Saturday, it seemed rich so I dropped the jetting, and at the last practice, I lost the left piston with a nice hole in in.
I was scheduled to run in the 7th race, Formula500, ending with two other classes, and decided to run back to the house, drop off the RD350, and grab the 89 VTR250 Interceptor and run the V6 Lightweight on Sunday...
I got back, and heard that in my race an old racer, Mike Wells from Boynton Beach Fla, 67 years old, had a massive heart attack on the track (in my race) and died on his bike. He was going down the front straight, and slumped over his tank, went into turn one, crossing over into pit out, and the bike fell over on top of him. He didn't move, and they figure he was dead before he hit the ground... He died doing what he loved, so that is something! But, he was well respected, and raced most of his life, leaving a legacy of bikes and racers he schooled into the sport. He will be missed. Please pray for his wife and family, as she was there at the track.
