« on: July 12, 2018, 07:31:39 pm »
Good luck to all of the racers that intend to compete this weekend. Be safe and have fun. To any of the forum members in the area, please make an effort to attend this race to show support for our fellow members. It means a lot to know you have someone there rooting for you. It sometimes makes us try harder and keeps us focused.

Safe travels to all and please keep us informed of your status. A prior family commitment will keep us away this time but we'll be there in spirit 😁

Come to Commerce Bill. We'll be there racing. Luckily for me, Gladys rented an air conditioned tower suite  and convinced her family to do their reunion at the track this year. Best of both worlds for me. Catered meal and all. 8)

And another thing guys, I can't wait for Wilbur to post, to ask him about the spectators, or lack of.
I was able to watch several live clips of footage of the racing and even when Top Fuel were running, spectators could be counted on your fingers, apart from the usual crowd behind and around the start line. WTF.

I wish I could have been there. I got the bike put back together and while doing some testing I found that I could no longer lift my left leg up to the peg. I didn't forsee  that problem. Pretty sure there's a rule about dragging a limb down the track. Nuts!!

Some people drag both legs the full way but doing that is better than one leg up as it throws everything out of balance.

Your pegs are to high if you can't get your foot on them and the speed that the Auto moves from a stand still, you've got enough time to get them both up before the bike is doing 2mph. hahaha.
Is this something temporary or is it something you have to live with ?
Build the bike so it fits you.

I think I saw something on FB about the event being canceled due to rain. Several classes did make it to their finals only because of the low bike count. Perhaps that's why Wilbur hasn't checked in- nothing of any consequence to report??

Sam its just a cruel reminder that I'm a 14 year old boy trapped in a wrinkled creaking container. Bike used to fit me perfectly 15 yrs ago, but...? I think with enough exercise and yoga I can get back to it again. The revised goal is Valdosta in the spring!!!  Don't count me out yet! ;D

OK, no problem. How about lowering the foot pegs then?

Good point Sam. Positioning the foot pegs to suit the rider's body is the smartest thing anyone can do when drag racing a bike. IT took me forever to get Bill to make those exact changes to his bike but once he did, he ran his best times and felt way more confident in launching the bike. Its the simple things that make a huge difference.

Hope to see you in Valdosta with a bike Underdog.

Weekend recap:
Arrived at the track Friday morning to typical late July hot and humid weather. DW decided to accompany me for this trip which was a pleasant change. No test-n-tune for me on Friday since the (borrowed) 32' RV sucked up most of my disposable income for the next six weeks covering 2200 miles round trip using over 300 gallons of fuel. Spent a good part of the afternoon bench racing with POPS and one of his buddies (Mike) who was there racing Pro ET. Listening to POPS and Mike go at it I could tell they had busting each others chops for quite a few years.  ;D

Saturday:
(some of this I moved here from Bill's big block thread)

My sister brought my Dad over to watch me race on Saturday. Part of the reason for making this trip was because I have family near there. It was good to see them and I got to go racing too!

Round one win! FWIW when my opponent broke out. Of course no points for round one since everyone comes back to round two. A win is a win, I’ll take it! Round two on the other hand netted me my 2nd ever holeshot win! Opponent ran .1 off dial to my .12 off dial but I had him by .029 off the line for the holeshot win! Going to round three!

POPS brought "The Turtle" so I got to see him race. He red-lighted both rounds, but by a lesser margin in round two, so he was improving! He spent a lot of his time serving as the official "starter" for about a dozen of the Pro ET bikes. He knew a bunch of the local racers that were there.

Pretty good turnout, with Pro ET having a big field. Only four top fuelers. I only wish it were cooler!

Round three breakout. Done for the day... dammit! I had been running 13.2’s all day, so I dial 13.20 for round three and I pull off a 13.174. I’ll take it, at least I called my dial within .03 which is a narrowing margin of “guesstimation” for me.

Sunday:
Round one win! I broke out by .015, but my opponent red lit. A win is a win! Round two however saw the tables turned on me. I somehow managed to line up next to my round one opponent. I ran a 13.11 on a 13.10 dial and still got beat! I was .010 off my dial to my opponent's .012 but giving him .07 off the line (my .1 RT to his .03 RT) was too much to overcome handing me a holeshot loss.

Overall a very good weekend, proving that I can pick my dial pretty close and that some more practice off the line should get me closer to an actual event win, hopefully in the near future! A number of the regulars were there: POPS, Dusty Brazel, Barry Pryor, Vance Houdyshell, Manny Corrasquillo, the last two also hailing from Central Florida.

After leaving the track Sunday we stopped and visited with my Dad that afternoon, heading South Sunday evening. I drove all day yesterday to get back home a little after 11:00 last night.

Back at work today!  :(  (hard at it as you can tell...)  ;)

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I'll start a new thread when my lovely bride teaches me how to post some pictures tonight or tomorrow. Basically its a CycleX Boxer frame with a GSXR1000 rear suspension and the pegs come out of the lower rear engine mount. Raising the seat and bringing the drag bars back are all I can think of, but I don't think they'll make a huge difference. The seat is very low, but I can't think of a way to raise enough without looking goofy.
Frank, I do remember reading your peg post with Bill and I think you mentioned it with Sam's auto thread also. Great advice, but not quite sure how to put that in play here.
My friends were very helpful with suggestions too. Everything from springs, to an airshift cylinder hooked to my pant leg (hit the button 10ft out). When they got to the pyrotechnics to help me, it seemed like a good time to boogie out of there!! Oh yeah, that's the kind of friends I have!! ::) ;D

Underdog, could be a symptom of a nerve issue in low back or misalignment of your spine and low back.  Find a good chiropractor and see if an adjustment helps the leg return to normal.  I have had a similar problem and a adjustment really makes a difference in walking as well as steps, etc.  Immediately you will know after getting up and walking out if it is related to that as it will be easy to notice the difference.
An adjustment should not be painful unless it is muscles guarding and a good chiropractor is not going to use excessive force to cause pain.

Worth a try if it costs you $40 a visit  and the adjustment holds for a week or longer it is money well spent.

Wilber you are the man as the only 750 SOHC to be at the event, my eyes were to good and those .006 and .004 RED LIGHTS did me in as my goal every time is to leave first with a .05 or better light. My racing friend for years got 2nd in street ET Roger Burt. Mike paid $75 on Friday to make one pass and the bike stopped [died] 4 out 5 times in the next two days, as his special battery and his clutch set up was all wrong .  I'am the only person who has ever helped him but he will not listen to me or any of the other riders with years tuning GS1150 motors and has never won any event.

It sounded like your advice was falling on deaf ears when discussing the battery selection with Mike. I try to keep things as simple, durable, and reliable as possible. I don't understand the affinity for the lithium batteries. Shave a pound or two but end up with a bike that won't stay running long enough to make it to the last (or even the next) round? Isn't that what they call "shooting yourself in the foot"?   ;)

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
