1974 CB750 Rod Weight for Rebuild
« on: June 29, 2018, 06:20:27 PM »
I am rebuilding my 1974 CB750 and I have two sets of stock rods, but only 5 of the 8 rods are in usable condition .  I weighed the rods I want to use and found that two are 386 grams and two are 380 grams.  My question is can I use them as they are?  Or do I need rods that are closer in weight?  Can I shave some material off of the heavier rods to get them closer to 380 grams?  This is not a performance build.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I thought the rods had a letter printed on them like a H,J,K etc. these letters represented the weight of them. You should really have all the same weight rods if you want it balanced and smooth.

Can't say that I ever weighed the same lettered rods as I've just matched rods by that weight letter designation. That being said you could always grind off a little weight to exactly match them.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
