There is no stitching on a stock seat. What it does have is embossed impressions to simulate stitching. Embossing is a heat iron imprint into the vinyl.
When it begins to split it is because the vinyl has lost resiliency and has become brittle with age.
You can delay cover replacement by removing the cover and gluing a patch, about 1 inch larger than the split, under the split with a reinforced cloth backed vinyl section, using Shoe goo. (clean the area with alcohol first) You will need to let this glue dry at least 24 hrs before placing it under stress.
Be aware, that all your present vinyl is now facing embrittlement. And, you will soon have new cracks to patch until you finally give in to seat cover replacement.
