Rear brake switch mounting (‘77 CB550F)
« on: July 09, 2018, 07:16:09 PM »
I know this is a tedious question, but I for the life of me can not figure out where the mounting area is for the brake switch. I know that the spring connects on the bottom part of the rod that is actuated by the brake pedal, but I am not able to see where on the inside part of the frame it mounts to. I have done searches both here and other forums but nothing, not any pictures, none that help anyway. Thanks for reading!

Would have to go and find my parts book but I think the bracket is a separate part  bolted on or on an engine mount bolt inside the frame rail.

If I have done it right part 13 on the link

Hey flatlander, thanks for that link. I did use that one to figure out how to attach the spring, but from what I can see, there’s no clear image or description how it does attach.

Bryanj, I can’t believe that I missed that! Sometimes an extra set of eyes is all it takes.

Thanks to both of you for lending a hand. I’m going to order that clip attachment and see where it takes me.

It seems trying to find this mounting bracket is going to be more difficult than I thought. I might need to fabricate something up, or search through my parts box.

you could make that bracket yourself. it's nothing fancy. or ask in the wanted section if someone has a spare one.

here's a pic of a really rusty one, but you get the idea:

the switch (7) in the diagram) just sits in the bracket, and the spring (8) is then hooked into it.
