DYNOMAN valves
« on: August 12, 2018, 03:33:46 PM »
My project: 1976 Honda CB550F complete engine overhaul.

Are the DYNOMAN products to be trusted? I purchased a set of valve guides and I need to replace all of the valves due to pitting on the stems.

Have you all had good luck with these valves? They sell a slightly oversized valve (28.5/24mm). Why would one need this? Wouldn’t it be best to simply purchase the standard (27.5/23mm) valves?

Are the “racing valve springs” and titanium retainers worth the money if my old springs measure just fine?

Are the Viton valve stem seals dependable?

There seems to be a great lack of OEM parts for the engine and these aftermarket parts seem to be in abundance. If the DYNOMAN products are trusted and proven it would solve a lot of problems.

Dynoman can be trusted I got a new camshaft from them. Race build can be expensive and would likely wear down faster. Check on eBay for OEM or NOS parts if no luck try CMSNL.com

Viton FKM is a good for valve seals

hey we have the same bike :)

anyway, dynoman stuff can be trusted, he gets it from reputable sources. a lot of their products are geared towards perfomance. if you want OEM parts, look at david silver spares (they have separate US and UK/EU sites, google them based on your location) or cmsnl.com.  these have almost everything you may need. you can find things often a bit cheaper online if you spend time searching. best to look up the honda part number in the partslist, and stick in google.
one good thing about these bikes is that you can actually still find OEM parts in abundance! hope the above pointers help you find them.

oversize valves flow more volume. with a stock engine they make no sense. if you modify your engine for performance then you can consider them but there's more to it so if you are thinking along those lines... better open a new thread stating your goals and asking which mods people recommend.

viton seals are dependable. and they resist today's pump gas with ethanol so get them while you can ;)

racing springs and ti retainers, sames as the valves, if your engine is stock there's no need to spend the money. get a set of OEM ones.

as you're talking about replacing your valves: how are the seats? did you consider lapping or re-cutting?

As alway, you all are extremely helpful.

Thank you for the OEM resources. They are good sources for parts.

I agree and it is always automatic—new guides equals reseating and a trip to my machine shop. My bike was one of those “it ran last time I tried” (10 years ago!!!). Corrosion on the valves was a problem and there was scoring inside the guides. I don’t trust them so it’s time to replace.

Given the advice here and the fact that I don’t intend to race my machine—just fun rides in the Wisconsin countryside, I’ll replace the guides and valves with Dynoman and reuse the original seats and springs since they all checkout fine.
