Hi all - I'm working on assembling a fresh motor. Everything is squeaky clean and I've inspected and checked all the specs as best as I can. Installing some new bearings, chains, etc.
I'm about ready to seal the lower cases back up, but there are 2 things giving me pause. Hoping someone can help out.
The starter gear on my crank has about an 1/8th an inch of lateral play. I didn't disassemble it so I guess it was always that way, but it seems odd. Is this normal?
Just to make sure I'm not using the wrong terms, its this one:
I can move it to and away from the case a visible amount.
Also, I have a similar amount of play in the outside gear on my main shaft (5th gear - I think). This one bothers me more.
Is this movement expected when the cases are seperated? Everything else is tight and lined up nice. These 2 just FEEL odd. Does the movement serve some purpose I don't know about? Whats the tolerance here? Any help / reassurance is much appreciated.
