Emgo Muffler CB400F Bracket
« on: July 23, 2018, 08:50:36 AM »
Hi!

Had to get rid of the rusted out muffler that came with the bike.
For a quick fix, I bought a Emgo Megaton Reverse muffler.

The thing is, the mount isn't quite plug and play.

Can anyone recommend a bracket or share some images of a home made one?

Cheers,

What you need to do is take a picture of the muffler attached to the header with the bracket on the muffler rotated up so we can see where is located relative to the frame.

The Kerker on my 550 uses a longer version of the strap shown your photo that reached from the mount on the muffler to the upper shock mount.

I like Kerkers but hate that long strap!   When I had one, I modified it to mount to the inside of the rear peg, worked fine.

I agree, I was not a fan of the strap, but the fantastic sound kind of made up for it. The one that came on my 750F was clearly intended as a direct replacement of the OEM on the stock header because the bracket on the muffler is near the middle and attached at the factory point on the frame.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I was avoiding welding anything as this is a bit of a temporary solution. The bike needs to be noise tested and the old exhaust was in shambles.

How about a Simpson’s Strong Tie or something similar, modified to fit, rounded off corners, and painted black ?

My friend just bought a 400F with a similar muffler. It's like reproduction in 2/3 the size of the original. Anyways the bracket that is shown on yours, the long straight one, his is similar although its longer and has a 90* twist in it to make it meet up with the mounts on the bike.

Nothing says the muffler bracket has to be at its side. Put it down then bend the strap around and drill it to bolt to the bike bracket. You will need to make something for a centrestand stop as well?
