Wiring question
« on: July 23, 2018, 01:53:38 PM »
I have 5 wires coming from the alternator area. But what does the long white wire connect to?

I know 3 yellow to 3 yellow, white plug to white plug, blue to oil pressure unit. But the other one confuses me.

Looks like it has been substituted for RED. Connects to battery POS.

Neutral switch sensor wire
I doubt that given that the wire is extra long, appears to be a much larger gauge, and has a ring terminal installed. The NEU is Gr/Red striped and would have a bullet connector to plug into the harness. The RED connects to the solenoid post or the battery.

It’s the neutral switch alright. It’s got one of those woven covers on it.

Neutral switch wire. The sheath hides the true color of the wire inside and is used to protect the wire since much of it is exposed in the sprocket well and beneath the engine (similar to the ignition wires where they exit behind the points cover). It routes behind the shift cover to the underside of the engine below the sprocket to the neutral switch on the bottom of the motor. This is the sub harness between the alternator and the main harness. In stock trim there was a tin tab under one of the engine bolts behind the shift cover (under the sprocket cover) and a tin tab on one of the oil pan bolts that fold over to hold this wire out of harms way.  8)

Thanks guys. Covering confused me so I pulled it back and looked at the wiring color and it looks as if it definitely is the neutral switch wire.
