Braking news (photos)
« on: July 24, 2018, 04:03:38 AM »
Hi,
can any one tell me how much radial play should be on a CB750 F1 front brake caliper holder (45115 392 003). I've just fitted a new holder and I still have a wee bit of radial play but maybe because it could be a repro part and not a genuine Honda part.

BTW I replaced the holder to reduce front brake judder.

I checked a few that I have here and they have about .015 to .020 movement in the direction of the arrows that you indicated. Looking at the pictures that you posted, the surface of the rotor looks pretty rough and may be the reason for your "judder". Also, it looks like you have a copper brake line, in some places, that won't pass the safety inspection.

Hi Paul,

thanks for your reply.

I have about 1.5mm play, measured from the front of the holder to the edge of the brake rotor.
I think that your .020" = .50mm (approx), so maybe that's too much play for me?

Although I'm not sure I think the new part may be a repro part and not a genuine Honda part and this is the reason for the excess play.

The brake rotor checks out ok with a dial gauge test.

Re copper brake line, a safety inspection is not required for vehicles over 40 years across the pond.

Do you have the O rings in there, and grease. ?
Have you thought of mounting them behind the fork ? (Not saying but helps, looks better.

Hi,

yes I got 'O' rings fitted and the new pin is greased.

Is there any play on your brake caliper holder?

Lots of them have now play, and they drag, and maybe squeal..
