650 Starter Cable Routing
« on: July 29, 2018, 12:38:26 PM »
Does the starter cable route through the rubber grommet/insulator with the stator wires? It can fit, but as I push the rubber part into it’s home I feel the starter cable has to make too tight of a turn. Doesn’t seem right. But if I don’t put it in the rubber part then it’s just free to rub against the sprocket cover. There is a cutout in the cover but not sure it’s for the cable.

I think the 550 does route through the rubber part but I think it has it’s own hole for it. The 650 only has one hole for everything.

Does the cable route through the rubber part that’s pictured? Thanks for looking.

I think it doesn’t, right now I have the cover on without the cable going in the rubber part and it feels good.

Looking at it again I can't tell for sure but I inclined to think it doesn't go into the grommet  ,

It looks to be the same setup as on my CB500. When I tried to fit the outer sprocket cover with the cable outside of the rubber grommet, it would not bolt up tight against the crankcase as the starter motor cable prevented this. I placed the cable inside the grommet and it bolted up tight.

The cover has a cutout that the cable can go in so the cover can bolt up tight. It’s just weird because there’s no rubber to help prevent chaffing.
