The 77/78 basket is slightly longer to accommodate the double steel middle plate

When I assembled it all, the final friction and steel plate covered the teeth where the pressure plate fits in, not allowing it to grab.

Sure wish you lived closer..... ;D. When engines stop....well , not good. Check the integrity of the engine. Compression check or better yet, a leak down test and don't be turning if over til you verify cam sprocket bolts are tight! Good luck.

An update for you guys, and some questions. I have been able to get the bike running in the past couple weeks, and I got the clutch working (bought heavy duty springs). I also got my custom black and yellow “ 970CC “ plate on the way, bike is now registered (for the first time in 20 years).

My question is: I am running Mikuni 2-4 carbs, does anyone have an idea of what jets I should start with? I am currently running a 40 pilot and 250 main, clip in the middle. It seems to have run better with a 35 pilot, but idles better (but not for long) with the 40. CycleX suggested p40 m250

My game plan now is: I have a complete new gasket set on the way, and I am going to swap my head and valve cover gasket because I’ve torqued and retorqued the current ones while trying to get the bike running. I am going to double check my valves aren’t leaking while I do that, then re-degree the cam (I don’t like my last numbers I had). I also have a 2 plate racing clutch system coming, so I am going to swap that out, figure I’ve gone this far, might as well do everything right. Then get into really tuning and messing with the carbs.
