CB750K - '71 Frame, '73 engine. Which wiring harness?
« on: July 24, 2018, 04:13:05 PM »
Hey guys,

I bought a CB750K ('71 frame, '73 engine).  Wondering what the right harness is for this situation (I already bought the '71 harness, so I'm hoping that's what the consensus is).

73 has better fuse protection.
I can't for see a problem using the 71 harness.

the engine electrical stuff is basically all the same...the main thing is that your handlebar switches match the harness.  The switches changed a lot over the years.  You can, however, modify the different harnesses to work with just about anything with the addition of some jumpers or leaving others unplugged.  Just be sure and have accurate wiring diagrams for both years so that changes can be compared.
If it works good, it looks good...

Thanks guys. And I believe the neutral safety switch doesn’t exist for the ‘71, so it wouldn’t be included in that harness if I’m correct?

I went to rebuild the right switch assembly and it was flat out missing things inside (grounding pin and the start button wire was melted off). I’m going to try universal handlebar switches and hope for the best. Going to have to keep an eye on the wiring diagram.

Ignition switch differ, round connection or rectangular.
If you have the earlier battery holder that has different brackets for charging regulator and fuse holder, go for the older harness with round ign switch connector.
Going later harness need a newer battery holder with late fuse holders, late ign switch.

I should go for the year of the frame and documentation. Make sure everything else is 71 too. If engine is slightly newer, so what. Only CB750 guys will see the difference on head and cylinder fins.

Sounds good, thanks man.
