Breather Tubes
« on: July 25, 2018, 07:28:03 PM »
Breather tubes 18 and 23 in this diagram https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550f1-super-sport-550-four-1976-general-export-kph_model17111/partslist/F15.html#.W1kuBNhKjdQ have dry rotted completely on my 1976 CB550F.

Is there any quick fix like buying some rubber tube and sticking a screw in the end or do I need each specific tube with reduced diameters and slits? The problem I'm seeing is if I go with the former I'm going to have a big tube and screw because of the nipple sizes on the case and chamber

windshield washer vacuum tube, or the like...from the auto store works just fine.
If your carbs are sorted, you will have very little to drain out when doing maintenance.

I made a 18 by using two different diameters of tube, one pushed inside the other. There is some foam material in the large dia section to restrict air entry this way.
23 is supposed to have a closed end. Squeeze to drain, but could be blocked by a removable plug.
