So I joined approximately 11 months ago after taking possession of a 1978 CB750K that looked like it came out of a bayou. Thanks to the plethora of discussions and information I am happy to say that I’ve come a long way baby!
So I started with this...
The tear down went well but there was plenty of rust, especially on the right side and the #4 piston as well as the slide on the carburetor were rusted in place. Some Marvel mystery oil took care of breaking them loose.
The plan is to stay stock so the engine and carburetor rebuild went about as well as expected for a first time novice...plenty of steps back after a step forward. Everything seems to be in working order.
Since I’ve got limited space I went ahead and built a cart (got the idea from F1) so that I can move the entire project around.
I’ve also purchased a 1976 cb550 to rebuild so you’ll see a couple different tanks in the following pics. I purchased a CB750 tank off of craigslist that’s on the frame but on the bench is the 550 tank that I cut the sides out of to add knee dents in (plus I can clean out the fuel/varnish that was in there for over 15 years.) I’ve purchased the sheet metal to form the sides. My first time so this should take a while. It’s crazy what needs to done!
Anyway here’s my first project for your consideration so thanks for checking me out and all criticism is welcome...especially the harsh ones. They learn me a thing or two.
