Camshaft differences
« on: August 21, 2007, 02:51:41 PM »
Hello, I am hoping someone will be able to answer my question(s)
I have had a quick look in the forum and haven’t found the answer I am looking for,
Can anyone let me know the differences between K series and F2 cams?
I would really like to know the duration and lift each give? Also any experience of running the F2 cam in a K motor and if there are any problems?

As far as I have been able to find out, http://www.satanicmechanic.org/cams.shtml,
Standard "K" should have

Inlet Opens 5 deg BTDC
Inlet Closes 30 deg ABDC
Exhaust Opens 35 deg BBDC
Exhaust Closes 5 deg ATDC
Duration 215/220
Lift In 8.00mm
Lift Exh 7.95 mm

However I am not sure if the info I have found for the F2 is correct.
Inlet Opens 0 deg BTDC
Inlet Closes 40 deg ABDC
Exhaust Opens 40 deg BBDC
Exhaust Closes 0 deg ATDC
Duration 220/220
Lift In 8.50mm
Lift Exh 8.45 mm

I would also value any suggestions for a cam for mainly road use.

I intend to rebuild my original motor from my Dresda which was 900 however for the moment I am going to build an 812 version until I can afford some new pistons. (Here’s a tip, when you are storing aluminium parts make sure that rats and mice do not use your storage boxes as nests.  Once they start peeing over them it won’t matter how well you protected the parts. Rodent pee is CORROSIVE!!)

Many thanks for any help and info.
Pete

Hi Pete, welcome to the forum.
I can't tell you about the differences in the cams but if you want a really strong road cam, Megacycle do a really good one that works very well with the Wiseco 836 pistons.
I know you said you couldn't afford new pistons at the moment but the Wisecos are not that expensive depending on where you are in the world.
This combination tied in with gas flowing will give you a really strong road motor without putting to much stress on the bottom end.

Hi
Thanks for the welcome.
Many years ago I used to work for a chap who used to grind his own cams, Leon Moss of Ledar, who once told me that in his opinion the guys at Megacycle really know what they were doing so I have always felt that they would be worth looking at.
Unfortunately I am trying to rebuild the Dresda while putting two kids through Uni and also looking to move house so things are going to have to be done really on the cheap!! Otherwise I could really go to town with the likes of M3!
Regards
Pete

Hi Sam
I am in the UK near Norwich.
The user name was simply arrived at. I used to own a Triumph Sprint RS and as I am Pete and that is usually taken I put the RS in front! Sort of seemed logical at the time and I have tended to stick with it since.
Cheers
Pete

We might get to meet up sometime when I come down to Woodbridge.
I'm in Warrington, Cheshire.
When I mentioned that pistons are cheap depending on where you live, $2 to the £  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
