I would never pay more than maybe 4-5k for a school bike. You have no idea what was done to it and how many times it has been apart and put together wrong. You will have to go through the whole thing. All provided you get a clean title. Strictly speaking, these should be illegal to ride on the road. Honda got a tax credit for these with the stipulation that the bikes would never be operated on public roads.

I can agree with that. Nothing like having a bunch of beginners tearing into a complicated machine.

I can agree with that. Nothing like having a bunch of beginners tearing into a complicated machine.
My buddy who was a student at a school that had a CBX to do projects on, said the engine had been completely torn apart and put back together untold times and as a result, every bolt hole had been Helicoiled.  Of course the bike did not get ridden or tested very much either, if at all.  No thanks on something that complicated getting mucked about by inexperienced meddlers.

From a Honda registered technician....you don't want a school bike....parts bike for sure. They sold them new in the crate, 81/82 to employees at the warehouse $800.00 as is. I know, I bought one!

Fyi theres a clean 82 listed in the for sale section, its a friend of mines. Not a school bike fyi. He has 3, and parts to build at least 1 more motor, maybe 2.

Even if it wasn't a "school bike" the seller wants too much, the last of the CBX's aren't anywhere near as collectable as the twin shock models, even if technically they're a better bike. Tell him he's dreaming........... ;D

Prices for CBXes have gone up in the last two years. You will not find a decent running bike anymore for under 5,000.- regardless of year.
Considering conditions of 1-5, with 1 being the best, the ball park prices for a 2-3 condition bike are: (IN THE U.S.!)

1979 -  8-10K
1980 -  7.5-9.5K
1981 -  6.5-8k
1982 -  6-7.5k

Key items are paint condition and exhaust.
Feel free to argue with me. I have bought and sold around 15 CBXes over the last 18 months of basically all model years. None of them on ebay!
