You want to remove the paint on the top clamp where the bars pass through the journals. The switch pods ground to the bars, the bars to the clamps, and onto the the frame. Paint will inhibit the path and make for some resistance in the switching. Plus, the added thickness of the paint only makes it tougher to get the proper cinch on the bolts without shearing them.

You will have to mill down the swing bracket, or change the bracket.

VHT makes a Caliper paint. Available at most auto parts stores.

My first preference is powder coat.

Ok. So can I get a 500 or 550 one? They look identical. What years are interchangable?

Also, can I reuse the backing of the K model caliper on one from the 450, 500 or 550?

500 used a narrower bolt pattern and different piston.
500 has 38 mm piston, smaller than 750.

Frank, are you sure that mid year k caliper won't work? I had a 73-76 K caliper mocked up on my 75f for a while and it appeared that it would work fine. The only reason I did not use it was because I was adding the second brake and the 73-76k calipers can't be made to work on the rh fork leg.

I double disc'd my 76 F with two stock calipers and the stock M/C and loved the stopping power. I did ruin the front tire that came on it practicing emergency stops lol. I still have a wrecked 75F backhalf and a 77 F engine I'm saving for some custom cb I may build down the road.

Cool.

I ended up ordering new wheel bearings, next bearings and a battery.

I figure I will stop spending cash for a bit. Try to sell some old Harley parts.

Plan on reinstalling front end, do wiring, and see if it won't try over, maybe even start for a bit. Before I get to far I wanna make sure it runs and there are no other major issues, other than the trust I've fun into.

Big thing too will be tires, wheel strip and tubes.

I think on the smooth caliper the piston has a closed end with tge swivel bump on it.
on the finned ones caliper end is open, and the swivel piece drops into open end of the piston.
I think 750 smooth one may be 41 mm dia? maybe(500 uses 38mm ).... don't know what size or length the finned one uses.

What kind of Harley stuff ?

This caliper situation is making me crazy. It was labeled cb500. Wasn't spaced enough. Arm looked the same so hooked it up.

When I put the tire on hits disc. I need some advice on what to get.
