What kind of plastic are CB750 side covers made from?

Looking to replace a tab and am wondering about which epoxy to try.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

It is much more expensive, but I would just order a replacement from Frankenfrankenstuff. I had a broken tab on one of my '76F covers and the other wasn't in great shape, so I bought a pair from him. The cover is made of sturdier stuff than my original and should hold up much better.

Yamiya750.com sells the same plastic as Honda delivered. Same color too.
Fiberglass would be more durable.

If the paint on your cover is fine, then I would try fixing it before buying a new cover and paint. I recently learned of using super glue (any popular brand, I think) and baking soda to repair plastic parts. I repaired a piece of a side panel using that stuff and it's rock hard. It can be sanded and shaped like hard plastic. I also used filler to get the surface smooth but if you're more patient than I am, you probably don't need it.  It might work in your situation if you use some tape or other material to make a form for the tab. I've never had any luck using epoxy for tabs -- doesn't hold for long (could be operator error, who knows).

Replace it with something new if it is original and hang it on the wall.
40+ year old abs never holds up well.

Had very good results with this product. Cannot tell the difference from a stock unit when painted. Much better plastic too.  http://lpmreplicaparts.com/products.html

I repaired a broken tab on a CBX side cover (not sure if it is the same material or not) using this product.  Repair completed in April of 2010.  No issues so far.  Available at many locations including Tractor Supply.

Make a tab from a piece of ABS sheet or ABS pipe and weld it on with ABS solvent.

I'm gonna second Awesome -- no need to by a new one if your original is fine (and matches paint-wise). I've used epoxy to repair tabs on side covers and works just fine.

Buy a roll of fiberglass drywall repair tape and use it as backing when using the epoxy.  I just did this and adds a lot of strength.

Another option:
www.polyvance.com/PlastiFix-Kits-1/

I used this with great results to create a missing bolt-hole tab on the front fender of my 2006 GoldWing. Missing due to its having been broken completely off. Very impressive stuff! But not the only option that works.
