What to do with an extra motor?
« on: August 07, 2018, 02:59:25 PM »
I just came into possession of a '76 750K motor from a local shop. Fella brought it in for repairs; shop disassembled & noted repairs needed (bore/pisons, valve job, gaskets, etc); fella said "Hell no, I'm not paying for all of that!" and left it there, top-end disassembled. Motor is otherwise complete.

So I really have no use for it. My motor runs and I have a spare. Should I try & part it out or just sell the whole thing as-is? And if the whole motor, where would I even start with price?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Be nice to keep the engine together as a package and if actually in need of machine work and it is disassembled probably $100.00 to 150.00 bucks or so to the right guy. Maybe a little more depending on your regional location.

Good to have a good overhauled spare engine that can be used on your bike.
If the bikes engine get mechanical failures, swap engine and riding season is saved.
Then plenty of time to investigate and repair the other one.

I hope they got paid for their time to diagnose it.

LOL! No, but I thought it pegged the cool meter the first time I saw it too. I've seen debate about whether it was photoshopped, and I've even seen a thread where someone was trying to replicate this. I'll post a link if I find it.
