Leather upholstery and rain
« on: August 06, 2018, 05:18:59 PM »
Now that I'm riding that Harley I actually have to worry about leather.

The seat and bags on that bike are leather - like actual leather, not Pleather, Naugahyde, or vinyl.

Do people ride these bikes in rainy places or what?  I mean, while it's been gorgeous in Seattle the past month - this is Seattle, so I can expect steady rain for the next 12 months or so.  Never having owned much leather, I guess I'm concerned that the rain will basically destroy it.

use some leather conditioner/waterproofer. theres a bunch out there. ususally easier to find it if you look for stuff made for boots. i like huberds shoe oil and shoe grease. also, theres snoseal, bear grease, many others.

treat it as needed depending on how much weather it sees.

i use this stuff on all my leather. jackets, pants, boots, car seats, mc seats. keeps it soft and pliable and very waterproof. i can ride all day and stay dry inside my leather with it treated or hike and walk right through water and feet stay dry.

I've ridden my leather seats through rain more times than I'd like, but I regularly give them a dose of cleaner/conditioner.  No problems.  Sun is the bigger menace.

Might want to check out a saddle shop (for horses) , probably find some real good stuff there.
