Found a CB750K1 - I'm still in shock and can't stop smiling
« on: January 14, 2007, 08:56:04 am »
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Last night I was cruising the local classifieds paper that comes every Saturday. I'm always checking it for cheap bikes that need to take up residence in my shop. Anyway I was stopped dead by this ad.

1971 CB750 Honda: 4300 mi., new battery, air filter, etc. runs great, no title, offer.

So I get on the phone and get a hold of the guy. He's had it for a while. Had some minor maitainence done on it but never had it on the road himself because it has no title.  I ask if the 4-4 is on it. Yep. Stock seat? Yep. Does it look like stock paint? Yep. How much you looking to get? With that answer I had my trailer hooked up and was on the road 5 minutes later, I didn't want this one to get away.

And it didn't.

It's not perfect. A little corrosion here and there. A couple of scratches in the paint. The rear blinkers have something funky going on. Missing a mirror. But for the most part its ready to go.  Oh and the baffles were removed but its still not all that loud.

I'm not to worried about it not having a title. I have gone through the hoops before with WI DMV when getting a title for my '64 Dream. Its a pain but if you do everything they want and fill out all the forms, a title can be had.

I'm almost afraid to say what I paid for it for fear of being bombarded with hateful words. ;D

Hahnda,

TELL US!!!!!!!

Seriously, just to get an idea of the market.  Besides, you just saved another beautiful bike from who knows what, and that is the most important thing.  Besides, any foul comments from us, is only out of jealousy and love! :-*

Good luck with it!

Nice find!
Perfect bike to restore - or just give it a good going though and keep it just the way it is!
Sort of cool with an original bike straight out of the seventies with all it´s battle scars still intact  8)

Congrats!

And tell us what you paid, man! I know you want to....  ;)

Cheers

I forgot to ask, does yours have HM300 pipes or HM341s? Mine are HM341s.

I still can't believe it.

I don't think I'm going to restore it. At least not right away. What I am going to due is clean up some of the light aluminum corrosion, polish up the chrome, and re-paint some of the black parts that really need it like the upper tree. Then come spring I'm going to ride the darn thing.

Or I could just ebay it and make a nice profit!  :o

One thing though. The bars look a little high to me compared to other pictures I have seen. The brake line looks a little tighter that what I think it should. Can anybody confirm this? I'm hoping that these are to high and stock ones are lower because I think it would look better with lower bars. But if this is stock then that's the way its staying.

Kevin,

I have to tell you that there's a lot of murmuring going on behind your back, and actually WE ARE ALL ENVIOUS AND HATE YOU!

 ;D

Congrats on your unreal find.  I, for one, still think you made this up just to annoy us over the winter.

While I can't prove the price I paid for it I can prove the bike is mine. Well maybe not. I guess nobody would know if this is really me on the bike or not.

No one else is home so I had to set the camera on auto.

Those handle bars look tall to me as well. I ordered a nos 69-71 set and I believe they are lower. Oh and BTW, if you ebay that thing I will hate you forever. JK ( sort of ) :)

I got my 72 CB450 for free, but I'd rather have your deal..  Now that's one sweet looking bike!!!  Its the same color as the CB450 I got..  Awesome find, I'm still smiling from mine as well..  It's hard to beat a deal like that...   ;D  I've discovered that deals like this are out there, but you must keep active.  I found out about my "free" bike by simply talking about my other CB..  The main thing is to keep looking in the papers and let everyone know your a classic bike fanatic, eventually you'll come across a GREAT deal..  Last month I just missed a great deal on a 1972 GT750 all original with 7000 miles, the guy wanted $400..  I asked when I could look at it and he said once he got off work which was noon the next day.  That morning he called and said someone picked it up at 6am, so good deals are out there but you must keep your eyes peeled ::)  Great find....

Man, I can't stop looking at that bike..  Tomorrow I start a new job installing water softeners for Kinetico, I hope this job will lead to rare classic motorcycle finds?  Granted I'll be in a lot of basements and not garages, but I bet I'll eventually come across something?  Now if I only have money when I come across this something?   ;)
