Shift linkage spring orientation?

Which way does the spring in the photo go? Top or bottom? Does it just press against the inside of the case?

It goes side ways with each leg of the spring either side of the large pin which is to the left of your finger in the picture.

thanks for verifying that jaytee.  i found an old photo from the last time i did some work under the shifter cover.  just rode the bike.  shifting well.
