1978 cb750 Clutch plate b
« on: August 12, 2018, 01:19:27 PM »
I’ve been having difficulty going through gears and especially finding neutral after the engine is warmed up.

Pulled the clutch from my 1978 cb750 k today today and there seems to be a part missing. It seems like there is supposed to be a unique steel plate in the basket that seats in the middle of the cluster of friction and steel plates. The friction plates have not been worn to the point I need to replace - all between 3.41 and 3.50.

I looked at a diagram and it appears to be called a “Plate b”. Part number 22322-371-020

This may be an obvious question but how important is this place as far as function. Also any suggestions on where to find one are welcome.

Side note: if anyone has an actuator laying around in decent condition let me know.

In a stock 77/78 basket with stock components it is important.

HOWEVER, pre-77/78 baskets were not deep enough to accept plate B with stock parts. There is a "field fix" for these rattling clutches that added plate B and removed one fiction disc to make room. So in 77 Honda included plate B by lengthening the basket so ALL the plates would fit along with the rattle saving plate B while modifyling the clutch cover also to fit everything.

HOWEVER II, some after market replacement clutches used extra discs.

SOOOOOO, determine what you have and go from there.

FYI Plate B is a 75 - 79 Goldwing part in case you need to search for one.

That’s good information. I don’t have any reason to believe it’s not the stock clutch basket so I’ll go ahead and place the order. Will keep you updated.
