Further down the rabbit hole...

You guys think this frame is still salvageable?

Cut that section out, get some new 1-1/4” 0.063 tubing, and have it welded in. You’ll be fine. I made the exact same repair two weeks ago for a CognitoMoto bike.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Check the area forward of the side stand mount, they like to rot there from water in frame.

Thanks man. Looked it over today with a welder buddy and took care of the main issue and found another baby hole somewhere around there we plugged. I’m back in the game! Now to deal with the sludge...

I install 'drain holes' just in front of the lower front engine bolsters on the 750sI work on. For a while on the K1, Honda forgot to install those holes and the frames rotted right there: later ones have vent openings around the wrap-brackets where the frames are welded together, instead of drilled holes, to dry them out. We had a mimeographed (remember those, guys?) 'Bulletin' from American Honda (1972 March) to check that all CB750 frames had these holes, and they were 'clear'. The 'excuse' was that the holes were painted shut: somehow that paint still made steel chips when I drilled it out...  ::)

Good call, thanks Hondaman.  I’ll take another look for those “existing” holes too...
