K6 Engine rebuild
« on: August 25, 2018, 03:35:32 AM »
Hullo guys out there. I am in the process of rebuilding the engine - complete strip down. I have this piece which I have noticed after putting the two crankcase halfs back together. I remember removing it but where from???
Can anyone help. Thanks in anticipation. Something to do with the oil feed I think.

Yes. That little pan is for the automatic chain oiler. Are you sure the engine is a K6 since I did not think they had it that year or if they did the oiler mechanism was not on the sprocket spindle. I believe you will not have to re-split the case and put it back in there if you don't want to.

Yes, chain oiler pan, you don't need it. I take them out of all the engines I build.

Thanks EXPENT.
I think that I know now. I have a vacant hole in the back of the crankcase. Its all coming back now [I have Jason Bourne symptoms] Interesting you say that about the engine. Would that be an earlier engine or a later engine? I checked the engine no and thought that it appears to fit with a K6? Or was that the frame no? Gosh I cant remember now. The bike is a bit of a bitsa. Mods are Alloy Wheels, Twin Disks. Not very "authentic" especially as I am respraying in Pearl Blue and using the K1 decals as I dont like K6 decals. My 1982 911sc is not as per factory either. CBX 1000 is as original as you can get.
Engine no below.
And Thanks again.

My K6 has it.
It helps to hold the final shaft in upper case when assembling the cases. I have under case with all axes in on bench, gears possible to test before put the cases together.

Thanks PeWe. I assembled with all gears and c'shaft in the bottom c'case and sfa in top. Is that OK? do you think. Haven't got the pistons into the barrel yet. Should be interesting!!! Seen it upside down on Hackaweek. Haven't done an engine rebuild since Tri Tiger 100 in 1969. A bit less involved.

Anyway thanks for all the help.

CBX up and running again with recon stator.

I have always assembled the cases like that. The only thing to observe is the 3 half rings that locks 3 bearings. They must be seated correctly on bearings. Case will enter and not slide sideways so any of them can fall off while enter the grooves in upper case. You will probably hear if that happen. But it has not happened me.

Honda manual also show upside down assembly. Trickier to get the gear fork in place as I have heard, never tried it.
Upside down can be good when gearbox, with bearings need to be restored with cylinder and head still in place if they are leak free and good condition. Just lift under cover.
