BIRD MAN!
« on: August 31, 2018, 02:30:27 AM »
i was tinkering in the shed today when our dog went ballistic!i spotted a weird looking guy with a tv aerial on my property just outside the fenced area, turns out he lives over the back from us and has a pet hawk he lets fly and tracks it with a radio jigger,he said its up in that tree there and called it and #$%* me dead it flew down to him!pretty cool!my dog was going berserk at it but "SID"the hawk didn't even flinch, probably eat a puppy?the guy told me he does shows etc with birds at local retreats and such,he had a bit of dead bush turkey his mate ran over in his car and gave him for the bird to eat.

I had a face-off with a turkey vulture a while back. It nearly ended badly for me:
I'm on a dirt road in farm country. The trees are planted tightly in windrows along both sides of the road. There is a big bird (not BigBird) in the middle of the road gnawing on some roadkill. Probably a turkey vulture, maybe an eagle, way bigger than a hawk. As I approach, he stays on the road kill beyond when I would expect him to be leaving. So I slow just a bit, and finally he takes off, but instead of heading for the field, he is flying straight at me, about head high, down the middle of the road. So here I am, playing chicken with a bird, my 35mph plus whatever his speed is. His idea not mine. At about 50 feet I was ready to concede victory to the bird, slam on the brakes, swerve, full tuck, I don't know, when at last he made a sharp left and found an opening in the trees. I didn't check the road kill as I passed but it occurred to me that it might have been an earlier arriving motorcyclist.

I found a video of a rabbit hunter using two hawks and a ferret.

Got this magpie that comes under the house and drops little bombs everywhere.
A mate gave it a few twisties awhile ago and the thing pops in all the time.
It snuck in behind me the other day and got locked in. Nearly had a heart attack the next time I went in.
Nearly took my head off trying to get out.

where i used to live in the northern burbs all the magpies were lean mean and fighting fit, where i live now up in the hills they're all quite sleek and healthy looking ( and nowhere near as attacky ) but i was walking through the carpark at work the other day i saw one of our local birds and they are obviously have a much easier time of it round here cos the bastard looked like a footy with a beak, fat little bastard

also at the old house i saw an albino magpie, instead of blk/wht it was sort of coffee and white coloured

as you'd expect up in the hills we get quite a range, swallow/swifts, owls, native pigeons, eagles, hawks, magpies, kookaburras , white cockatoos, black cockatoos, different sorts of parrots, little super quick things with bodies about the size of a chooks egg and loads of other stuff i got no idea about....and the two rabbits that live in our front yard
