Norton Cow-mando 850 interstate
« on: September 04, 2018, 10:23:20 PM »
Got invited to build a Commando 850 by a kind gentleman.
The motor is freshly rebuilt!  So the fun begins.

Got some ideas on what to update and what to improve.  Along with some sources for parts.

But I'm not sure what a good charging system would be for these brit bikes.  Suggestions?

I know bugger all about the Nortons apart for lusting after one as a kid.
here's a wee discussion on the charging. https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/uprated-charging-system.16423/
Don't put the piggy backs on it. Please.

Thanks for the link scunny.
Don't worry about the piggybacks.  The bike already has koni's, so those will get rebuilt.  Just doodling concepts with the marzocci option.

Got to have the longer pea shooters. I'm not a fan of the look of the shorty cone mufflers in general, but especially not on a Norton.

Anyone know if the original mufflers were stamped TOGA?
They look good, but the "spiral core baffle" isn't really a performance booster 😛

Should be interesting Cowman, "Toga" is an aftermarket English exhaust brand from a company called Norman Hyde, a Brit bike specialist in England. if they're in good condition, keep them, they're good quality. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well that makes a lot of sense now!

These were on the bike.  Just gave em a proper buffing.

Think the brake adapter will fit a brembo caliper?  108mm posts.
