1972 CB500 left side cover
« on: October 25, 2019, 02:11:02 PM »
I just bought a 1972 CB500 that was already fairly disassembled and in the process of cleaning, inspecting , rebuilding, etc. I've already gained much info from this forum! I have a question about the left side cover. I am going to be purchasing some new parts from David Silver for the clutch assembly. For the life of me I can't figure out what part#6 below is or where it goes. It isn't in the loose parts I got with the bike. I have an old Norton that has a similar part and the manual is very clear on where it goes. I have a clymer manual for the CB500 and I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?

The curved bit goes arround part 3 and the bolt 13 clams both parts to the casing to stop part 3 rotating in the hole
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

If you tighten too much it will break in half. So maybe that happened to yours. Part of the weakness of this clutch design and why they got rid of it.
