78 K 750 sideways number boss question.
« on: September 10, 2018, 03:24:27 PM »
This on a motor , serial number starts with 3 sideways number.
Oil pan seems to have more finning than early K models, but the strange thing, it seems to have no oil drain plug ..WTF  ?  .
Did they do this on some late motors ?
Does the DoHC series have a drain plug.
 Very strange.

Now there is evidence of major damage underneath this bike at one time . Makes me wonder if maybe pan got welded up, and they eliminated drain ? Have to get it real clean to check that.

I suspect some hamhanded repair removed the drain plug. Every engine I've seen has one. The sideways number is very odd. Possibly this bike threw a chain and had the cases replaced, with the mechanic mispunching that number? The renumbered cases I have seen have numbers that are not nearly as "pretty" as those numbered at the Honda factory, does the punching job otherwise look "factory"?

Aha i found the wekded up hole.
I thought engine cases were unscathed  but one main bolt boss  under points cover has been welded.
It has severe damage on both frame rails under engine, worst I have seen.  If these cases were in it  they came out quite good.
The side stand frame rail is pushed up at rear mount and front mount, and stand mount is angle outward, it's messy a piece welded in on points side on front curve.. messy.
Sort of hard to see with the crappy pipes on it.
Still worth it though,  got a donor frame coming.
