Blue and Yellow wire switched and bike runs as it should -solved
« on: September 11, 2018, 07:37:19 AM »
Ever wonder why some people have to switch their yellow and blue points wires to get the bike to run ? It happened on a 78K build for my sons bike ( Black Betty 1 ) and it recently happened to my 76 F ( Black Betty 2 ). Yesterday , i took the points plate off ( while tracking down another problem ) and took the advancer off and removed the outer "sleeve" that has the cam portion on it and rotated it 180 degrees so that the points open on 1-4 , not 2-3. The points now open correctly for the blue wire to blue wire hook up. A lot of people recommend switching the wires on the site but i have never heard an explanation here for it . My sons 78K runs great with no problems but it always made me wonder why that was the case we had to switch wires.( thank God for the wasted spark setup ) .
I hope this helps out someone with the same question.

Yes this is good to be aware of and avoid long fault tracing.

Cam or rotor 180 degrees wrong is mentioned in several threads. Pamco, Dyna S ignition threads plus the stock ignition.
I had read about it so I was prepared when I had mounted the rotor for Pamco or Dyna-S ign wrong. Also found photos of stock advancer where it is visible how it should be done
