IMO, at this point it's not whatever the original bike is, so completely ignore the price of a CB550/CB750 in stock form. This does look rather middling -- decent frame chop job, tank looks janky (possibly home spray bomb?), probably much else not seen.

That's not to say it's not a good bike, but it's just another late 70's early 80's runabout bike, not worth much intrinsically, just comes down to if you love the look, maybe it's worthwhile, that's up to you though.

That '78 posted is a remarkable deal though, go for that one.

Well #$%*, I'm late to the party! Yes that's my 550. The bike is an excellent runner. I have listed it for sale as yes it is to fund my K0 I picked up. I'm pretty confident about the mileage being accurate. The one mechanically is as close to the first 550K I bought with 3600 original miles. Although this one didn't cost me an additional 400 plus dollars to do the carbs. After joining the best forum on the interweb, members here walked me through how to clean the carbs. Only real downfall is the paint on the tank has major flaws from years of sitting. If I end up not selling it I will have a friend paint the tank and side covers black as that is a stock color for the year as well.
