Frame and engine serial#
« on: September 15, 2018, 03:20:47 PM »
I was looking for a K0 project and had no stock bikes and now I have 2 K1s and a K0. The K0 needs a lot, definitely a project, and it might be more worthwhile to find a different engine instead of fixing this one. The second bike is a K1 and is all apart but most of the parts are there and the engine and frame are again original. A worthwhile project with clean, refurbish and reassemble in mind. The third is also a K1, running in the past but needs to be cleaned up and put back on the road. The problem with this one is the K3 engine that is in the frame. I have another engine for it, a K1 engine, but the numbers are further apart than I'm use to seeing. Which brings me to my question. The frame number is 1116xxx and the potential donor engine number is 1080xxx. Is this close enough? I'm not trying to pass it off as "original" by any means but I do like to get things put back together as they would have been originally. Is there a engine "exchange" program out there somewhere? I have a really nice K7 engine with a 836 kit, a K3 engine, a K1 engine, etc. It would be cool to find someone out there with engines that didn't quite match there needs that wanted to trade. Anyways, just wondering.

The 80xxx engine is a K1 engine. If you want to run it in the K1 frame do it. They both are a K1. The gap is to far apart to be considered original. Not that that is your plan. Usually numbers are within 1k. Most people will say within a couple hundred is proper. Any pics of your bikes?

On my K0 the frame number is 1024802 and the engine number is 1025086 so only 284 off, definitely original. When I bought the bike a lot of parts had been picked but the "bones" were still there. It had been in an accident and the flywheel rotor had snapped off but the rest of the engine and the frame is clean and straight. The last plates were still on the bike when I got it and they were in 1973, the year of the accident. I was thinking of using another K0 or K1 donor engine for internals and bring the original engine back to life. Definitely a project.
