Indian 4
« on: September 16, 2018, 06:22:37 PM »
I don't know all the vintage bikes but I fell in love with this 38 Indian 4 being shown at Stockbridge. I didn't meet the owner or hear the bike run.

 A friend of mine has a 46 chief and a 39 (I think) 4 cylinder. Wonderful bikes.

I photographed an Indian 4 here last year? Maybe 2 years past, and heard it run. The photos are up here somewhere and I don't know if it is the same bike preresto.

Here is the 2016 photo, the bike is parked in the same spot. Is it the same bike?
I think not.

A few years ago at the Chief Black Hawk  Swap meet, I recall seeing either an Indian or Henderson SIX.  I recall hearing that it was prototype than did not make production.  They said it ran and it looked complete!  It certainly looked right, but I am not an expert.

Always have had a thing for the old Indians. My Granddad started his Indian Motorcycle Sales & Service, back in 1932 and when my Dad left High School, he stared working there, as well. Although it isn't a Four, I have posted a photo of one of the Indians my Dad had, back in the days, before I came along. I forget the actual model of this one, but it began life as a Military model, that a number of G.I.s brought home & swapped out the bodywork, for Chief Tanks & Fenders. I keep forgetting the model it was though. Just thought some might be interested to see a different Indian, that a lot don't even know about.

Update: it was called a: Model 841 (Shaft Drive V-Twin, turned crossways, like a Moto Guzzi.

Sean, I was my usual late arrival, about 3. Sorry I missed you.

I found this nice write up on a similar bike and many more as well, and yes, the engine sound is similar!

Love that Indian Four. For me the four was always synonymous with "Indian". Never had much use for the V-twins.

They are a bit like a CBX, the twins are far easier to  work on and live with..

Ha ha, I actually saw ya on your way there kevin.  You were turning from where that one section of territorial ends at the main highwAy that leads into Stockbridge.   You got that thing moving pretty well, the 341s sounded awesome.  Me and my buddy were across the highway enjoying some shady grass right where the road turns unpaved

Well dang it, I saw 2 bikes parked in the shade there, first I thought breakdown, then thought 2 guys enjoying the day, and being in a BFH to get there and say hello, I beat it on down the road. In my younger days, with my younger eyes, I might have spotted your ride or yourself.
