For me, it's the freedom. There's nothing else like it.

The looks I get from the ladies aren't bad either. ;) (See, I AM handsome ;D)
Gotta laugh about your last sentence regarding the looks from the ladies.  Last year, I took the cafe'd 750f to a "cruise night" in Aurora, Illinois at Swoney's drive in.  You have to cruise around maybe twice to find a place to park.  As I was finally backing into a tight spot, and turned off the engine, I looked up in time to see two early-twenties something girls looking at me while talking (you know, the hand over the mouth talking back and forth).  They kept watching me while getting off the bike..........right up to the point when I took off the helmet, and revealed all the gray hair.  I had to share that one with my wife and daughter.  We all had a good chuckle.  :D :D

What's "NM" Stand for?

Terry, you have a subscription to Rump Riders Weekly?  Tall riding boots and crop?  What colour-

Oh...  Well, that was Terry on the phone.  Have to go now, he's taking me dancing!

 ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Why do I ride?

Well, the darn things are just too heavy to carry, and very tiresome to push.

Varrooom!

Okay, I like to spend less for gas.  And, it just makes more sense to me to drag 500ish pounds with me to wherever, rather than 2 tons.  I think all my bikes have paid for themselves in gas savings over the 30 years I've had them.

Plus I get a perverse joy out of being flipped off by cage drivers in traffic as I roll past them between lanes in traffic.  It's quite a time saver, too.   For many years, it made my 7.5 mile (one way) commute take 15 to 20 minutes (depending on traffic lights), instead of 35 to 65 minutes.  One rainy night in the car it took 1 Hr 20 minutes to go 7.5 miles.

So, they are quite practical.  As an added bonus on the weekends, they are about as close to flying as you can get without getting the FAA upset.

Cheers,
Lloyd... (SOHC4 #11 Original Mail List)

Not trying to bring it down, just a wee bit gloomy today.

I'm 7,000 feet in the mountains, which is angering my sea-level lungs, it's sub-freezing every day and sub-zero at night.  There are people all around here with guns that want to kill me, the food is mediocre at best, the showers and crappers are inoperative most of the time, I'm working 12-16 hour days, my superiors all suck, every day is the same (like the film Groundhog Day, but without the benfit of not having to deal with the consequences of your actions), I busted my ass on some ice walking into work today and the worst part?

I HAVEN'T SWUNG MY LEG OVER A MOTORBIKE SINCE EARLY NOVEMBER!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(

There, that feels better.

ok Terry suggested sending these replys to hallmark so i wrote an ode ...see im thinking I could perhaps sit in silence and await the royalties im due....why do you ride?

  ODE TO THE BIKER

He touched the jacket , leathered and worn,
holes protruding from memories all born,
Gently he caressed the old dented helmet,
glad he had never had to sell it.
One more ride, one more road,
heavy of heart heavy of load,
he polished the bike with an oily old rag,
took down his boots and packed a bag.
he straddled the bike and let out a sigh,
so much of life had passed him by,
familiar vibrating touched his skin,
the sense of freedom sinking within.
closing his eyes , feeling her power,
the perfect lover, the perfect hour.
Thru rain and wind she carried him along,
soothing his soul, singing his song,
the strident mistress, she claimed his life,
carrying him thru,heartache and strife.
one more ride one more road,
heavy of heart heavy of load,
an ode to the biker weary with years,
as he felt his mistress between his legs.

But you sure seem to get what an old fart feels like in the morning...

GG, Where are you- the North Pole?!  I've known a guy who used to work in Antarctica but it doesn't quite sound cold enough where you are.

I just got back from the the sandbox, not many mountains and not too cold.  I think he`s in Afghanistan.
And the browncoats fly around in a ship called Serenity on a space-western tv show called Firefly.

 ;D

Ha ha, well I reckon that most of the above "Pooets" often have "mistresses" between their legs, but they don't know their names, or what they look like, because they're busy looking the other way! (and biting on their pillows!)

By the way Serenity, welcome, and for your info GG is serving in Afghanistan, at the moment. I wasn't teasing him in particular as I'm also a soldier, he's just taken more offence than anyone else, but considering his being in a pretty hostile environment at the moment, that's understandable. Cheers, Terry. :)

I ride so I can feel alive, the satisfaction of keeping a 37 year old machine flying round the TT course up to 120 mph, of keeping pace with new bikes (no way are these fast riders though, they would leave me for dust!). The pride of taking my 15 year old daughter on the back (she loves bikes and god help me the speed). The sense of freedom as you board the ferry then head off early in the morning, the 4 exausts howeling.
Even maintainance is no chore, when needed the bike gets this or that part new or from ebay and looks/goes better than ever.  It even goes up in value and costs nothing to tax and bugger all to ensure.
The satisfaction of getting a good series of bends just right with boots cliping the ground at the apex. Pulling a power wheely, no one expects that from such a tug!
And I am afraid smug satisfaction that heres at least one manufactuer who pretty much got it right first time so even when I turn up soaked with the bike covered in grime these a certain perverse pleasure in knowing the thing is be used for what it was designed, being ridden

Welcome Serenity and Slarty!

Hey Slarty, when did you get back from your trip round the Universe?
