2019 SOHC Family Reunion Ride
« on: September 13, 2018, 04:36:39 PM »
Soon the days of riding in the temperate zones of the US will become fewer and fewer, if they have not already. Here in NE TN it has not approached that but our northern states and Canadian members will soon have to dress much warmer for the ride.

That turns my thoughts to starting a conversation if it would be possible to plan a Godzilla ride and Reunion for '19.

The '69 750 will turn 50 years old in '19 and it might be a fitting tribute to dust off Godzilla and Lefty and PimpZilla to spearhead a few rides and maybe even a meet up in various areas across the country.  Not that I am expecting many K0s to go on the ride, even if I am a strong believer in Ride'm,  Don't Hide'm...

Nothing to stop 10-20 riders getting together with one of the brothers for a BBQ/cook-out and a nice ride in various areas of the country as the weather breaks for riding season to continue or commence.

Any interest in PAC NW & W Canada, CA/NV/UT/NM/AZ, TX region, Midwest, NE and SE regional get togethers?

We already had it at Bonneville.
A contingent of 3 showed up from 2 countries.  Worse than last year.

I predict for 2019. Dozens of reunions consisting of 1 person.
And even more dozens of excuses.. .

It's easy to talk about something like the reunion, actually herding the cats, I mean members, to attend is much harder.

Those whom a have not attended one or something similar either have not attended one or they are not someone who enjoys the commradery. And funny things that can happen. The sense of community and fun riding and meeting people you don't know except on web presence can be fun.
I understand the challenge.
For regional get together to happen you just have individuals in that area serve as a coordinator or leader.
Unless members step up and encourage others nearby to join in the activity then those get together have pretty low turn out.
4-5 people can have fun if they want, or if just one other person shows up you can have fun riding together and hanging out...

A small group can definitely be fun. About half of my ride in the 2011 Rally was 6-7 people and half just me Sean Barney and MJ Stone. 2013 was also mostly the 3 of us with a few others joining for sections. Both were a lot of fun.

Your effort last year turned out surprisingly well, especially considering it was out west with the distances involved.  I thought the level of participation was great, but it will be hard to replicate probably.

I am just finding lately that getting people to ride any distance on their bikes, seems harder than ever..
 Lots of excuses though.
I had many, many people comment that I rode my bike to Utah last month..
I guess my previous experience, and obvious HUGE TRUST in the CB 750, has served me well.
I just think its a normal thing to do..

Jeez this year even telling  people a girl on this forum rode 7,000 miles in under a month, on a 550 .. is failing to motivate people..

I was asked to move this here,  from the Quotes of Enlightenment Thread.

I WILL NOT......wait till I can't ride distances... .. to say, I WISH I would have gone when I COULD...
..... I think anyone  over 55, should really think about that....

I get ZERO vacation days and ZERO sick days/personal days. Of course, I've only been with the company twenty four years...  :(

Oh, wait, this probably should have gone in the "pissed off" thread.  ;)
