I don't know if they're native to Oz mate, but in Sydney's famous Bondi Beach, due to the 19th century effluent disposal system still employed there, it's quite common to swim in schools of the famous "Blind Mullet", native to the region.

They're an amazing fish for sure, totally blind, and usually cigar shaped, but totally devoid of fins or scales.  While I've never eaten one myself, (sadly I'm allergic to seafood) I've heard that they're not particularly tasty, are almost totally devoid of nutrients, and some people who have eaten them have apparently died, hence the warning, "Eat Blind Mullets and Die" that I've seen around Bondi Beach, curiously written on the backs of toilet doors?
