Okay, I want to thank you two for reminding me that I haven't worked in over 6 years.  I mean, life ain't too bad.  I am drinking champagne and eating chocolate croissants, but it is very cheap champagne, and the croissants are really stale and I had to make them chocolate myself.  But I'd really prefer to watch something AT WORK.

I made an omlette for supper tonight. I put pepperoni, american cheese and chocolate in it. (with Franks Red Hot Sauce as well)

Hey, I only worked 800 hours, last year, in a tax paying honest to goodness job and 380 of those hours were in December.
 I think they could have a little more consideration, you know how hard it is to go from building a couple chimneys now and then and hanging out with all you fine fellas all the time to working 7 - 12's

Chimneys?  Oooo, now you've peaked my interest.  What do you know about venting one of these?  I have two fireplaces that I can't use because the house is so sealed up that the smoke goes up the chimney, and then gets sucked down the through the other flue or the furnace flue, all of which are in the same chimney.  And I have had someone out to check the chimney, and it's okay.

I just got a call this morning for a one week contract job in Puerto Rico for later this month.  I will be staying here with flight and all other expenses paid.  I tried not to sound to excited. :D  Putting in two small video conference rooms for a large med-tech company. We will be staying on the east coast near some good snorkeling so my gear will be packed. Looked at an aerial photo of the resort area and it looks like there is a reef off the point.

Do you have an outside air intake for your furnace?  I have one directly into my furnace but another common option is to run a 6 inch insulated flexible duct from an outside vent into a 5 gallon bucket next to the furnace.  The bucket contains the cold air from spilling into the house.  Sounds kind of crazy but it works and is used often here.

when im geeked about an offer i try my best to almost sound dissapointed about it...i havnt been able to put my finger on why maybe i think someone will say ok and  we'll cover your drinking tab and you can stay all you want

When I built my house  a few years ago they "made me" cut a big hole somewhere that was just vented to the outside.
I cut a 1 ft. hole under the fridge and vented it outside, air can then be sucked in and cool the fridge and also allows fans and chimneys in the house to function.

My fridge was in such a tight spot it still overheated, I then cut a hole through the back fridge / pantry wall and now all is well.

Air tight houses need large vents to the outdoors.

Have you ever tried cracking the door or window closest to fire places when this starts to happen? not saying this is an answer, it just my give some insight to what is happening.

Now days houses are sealed up so tight. I believe in most places it is now code that each firebox is to be vented (fresh air intake) directly to the out side. This keeps the fireplace from sucking the heated air out of the house and it also helps it draw. One of the most efficient ways to do this is to put a fresh air intake at the front of the fire box. I do this by running a small duct under the fire box and turning it up just inside the fire place doors or screen, it can be closed when not in use, on the other end it has a  vent on the face of out side wall.

I have retro fitted such things, depending on the location and layout, by cutting a hole in the back of the firebox and installing a stainless duct to the outside and attaching it to a small custom made manifold that lays in the bottom of the firebox.

I live in a very old house that is a little drafty, I will often open a fresh air intake for the furnace in the basement to pressurize my house, I know I lose heat but it is better than the cold coming in.

It also sounds to me that you may be calling a chase a chimney. Every thing that runs up the chase is exhaust I assume? no fresh air intake for anything?

Okay, not to monopolize the conversation, but back to beating a dead horse my chimney issues.  Yes, opening a window solves the "problem", but when it lets in more cold than the fire makes heat, it sorta defeats the purpose of a fire.  I've been told about venting, and you all are confirming this.  Maybe I'm Googleing the wrong thing, but I can't find this answer on the internet.  And yes, a vent is code around here these days, but my house turns 56 this year.  It wasn't an issue when Mom and Dad bought the house new, but after 20 years or so he had blown in insulation installed and then replaced windows.  It wasn't a big problem right after that, so if you had a fire upstairs, you really wouldn't notice unless you went into the basement.  If you burned one all day, smoke would eventually reach upstairs, but Mom never did that.  And the exact opposite would happen.  You burn one in the basement, smoke would appear in the living room.  The smoking would be considerably worse in either direction if you run the clothes dryer.

If they are solid masonry and on an outside wall it would be fairly easy to core drill through  the back of the fire box and vent each.

If I had a couple pics I could give some more detail on how I would do it. You could probably do it your self if your not afraid of getting dirty.... I am black as coal sitting in a heat treat furnace as I type this...haha
